Cleveland Browns weigh quarterback options as Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders compete in training camp
The Cleveland Browns entered training camp with a clear message: the starting quarterback will be the player who performs best, regardless of contract size or draft status. General manager Andrew Berry emphasized that production, not the $230 million guaranteed deal of veteran Deshaun Watson or the perceived future of rookie Shedeur Sanders, will determine the Week 1 starter.
Watson, a three‑time Pro Bowler, is seeking to revive his career after injuries and inconsistent play since joining Cleveland. Sanders, the younger quarterback, hopes to prove he is ready to lead the offense now rather than waiting for a later season. The competition also includes other quarterbacks on the roster, such as Dillon Gabriel and recent draft pick Taylen Green, who could be cut if they do not meet the coaching staff’s expectations. New head coach Todd Monken and the Browns’ front office are expected to finalize the quarterback decision before the regular season begins.
