Cleveland Browns to stick with Deshaun Watson as starter for Week 2
Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken has confirmed that Deshaun Watson will remain the starting quarterback for Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The decision follows a 34-10 season-opening loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, where Watson completed 16 of 22 passes for 205 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Monken defended the decision, stating that film review showed “some really good things” that the team can build upon, despite the lopsided score. Watson addressed the criticism following the game, suggesting that the media maintains “unrealistic expectations” regarding his performance. He emphasized his focus on operating well to secure future wins rather than reacting to external pressure.
The Browns are also facing depth challenges in their backfield after running back Dylan Sampson suffered a knee injury that is expected to place him on injured reserve. This loss may prompt the team to seek veteran reinforcements, such as free agent Jerome Ford, to support the rushing attack.
