Cleveland Cavaliers promote Brandon Weems to general manager

The Cleveland Cavaliers have promoted Brandon Weems to general manager. Weems, who has been with the organization for 11 seasons, will serve as the top lieutenant to president of basketball operations Koby Altman. In his new role, Weems will lead roster management, contract negotiations, and global scouting oversight.

Weems joined the Cavaliers as a scout in 2015 and has held several progressive roles, including director of scouting, senior director of player personnel, and assistant general manager. He was a high school teammate of LeBron James.

In addition to Weems' promotion, the Cavaliers announced several other front office appointments. Jon Nichols has been promoted to associate general manager, while Brendon Yu and former NBA guard José Calderón have been named assistant general managers. Dashiell Flynn has been hired as the chief technology officer of basketball operations.
