Cleveland Cavaliers television deal faces criticism over accessibility

Cleveland radio host Ken Carman has criticized the Cleveland Cavaliers’ new television arrangement with DAZN, arguing that the cost and lack of traditional local broadcast options could alienate the fanbase. Following the collapse of the regional sports network system, the Cavaliers moved local games to the streaming service.

Carman expressed concern that the requirement to purchase specific streaming packages might discourage casual viewers from following the team. He noted that while he personally would pay for the service, he questioned whether enough fans would do the same, stating, “It’s bad for the fanbase.”

Viewing options on DAZN include monthly and season passes at various price points, such as a $19.99 monthly pass or a $119.99 season pass. However, these packages exclude games selected for exclusive national broadcasts. The situation reflects a broader shift in NBA broadcasting as teams navigate new methods of local game distribution.
