Cleveland Guardians advance to ALCS after historic comeback
The Cleveland Guardians have advanced to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) after completing a historic comeback against the Chicago White Sox. After losing the first two games of the best-of-five American League Division Series (ALDS), Cleveland won three consecutive games to secure their spot in the next round.
In the decisive Game 5, José Ramírez hit a crucial two-run home run in the fourth inning to lead the Guardians to a 2-0 victory. Pitcher Gavin Williams anchored the defense with 12 strikeouts, helping to shut out the White Sox. The victory marks Cleveland as only the ninth team in history to complete a reverse sweep in a Division Series.
The Guardians will now face the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALCS. The series is set to begin this Monday at Tropicana Field. While the Rays entered the postseason as the top seed in the American League, the Guardians aim to end a championship drought dating back to 1948.
