Cleveland's Eagle Avenue lift bridge control panel salvaged
Geoffrey Moreland, a Medina resident and YouTuber, has salvaged the main control panel from Cleveland’s Eagle Avenue lift bridge. The bridge, which served as the city’s first vertical lift bridge, is scheduled for removal this winter.
Moreland, a firefighter and local historian, describes the control panel as the ‘heart’ of the bridge. The device managed all essential functions, including sounding roadway warning chimes, lowering entrance gates, and raising the span for passing ships. In addition to restoring the hardware, Moreland is working to preserve the bridge’s history by collecting documents, photographs, and personal stories from those who operated or traveled across the structure during its seventy years of service.
