Célia Cancan wins silver at Budapest Grand Slam judo
French judoka Célia Cancan secured a silver medal in the +78kg category at the Budapest Grand Slam on September 13, 2026. The 20-year-old, currently ranked 10th in the world, achieved her best result at this level to date.
Cancan progressed through the tournament by defeating Paulien Sweers of the Netherlands, Siwar Dhawedi of Tunisia, and world number five Helena Vukovic of Croatia. In the final, she faced Israeli judoka and 2024 Olympic vice-champion Raz Hershko. Hershko won the match via ippon using an o-soto-gari technique.
This silver medal follows a series of strong performances for Cancan, including bronze medals in Tbilisi and Ulaanbaatar, and a fifth-place finish in Paris. Additionally, French judoka Fanny-Estelle Posvite earned a bronze medal in the -78kg category during the same event.
