Climate adaptation initiatives launched in Grand Est and Tunisia
The Grand Est region in France has launched the ‘Grand Est 2030: agir pour s’adapter’ initiative, marking ten years of commitment to climate change adaptation. Following extreme weather events in the summer of 2026, such as heatwaves and droughts, the regional government aims to accelerate transformations to protect residents, resources, and economic activities. The program builds on previous efforts, including the support of nearly 1,900 adaptation projects and ecological transition programs in over 150 high schools.
In Tunisia, the 2027 budget proposal includes measures to address risks from natural disasters, prompted by severe heatwaves and water shortages in 2026. Key objectives include developing a law for natural disaster coverage and establishing agricultural insurance to protect farmers and food production. Additionally, the budget outlines financial reforms to strengthen the banking sector, restructure certain institutions, and improve access to financing for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
