Climate change discussions face social and educational shifts

Discussions regarding climate change have become frequent in media due to rising temperatures, droughts, and extreme weather. However, a paradox exists where, despite increased mentions of the phenomenon, there is a lack of substantive discussion regarding the political, economic, and social implications required to address it. Some argue that while the science is overwhelming, the real taboo lies in questioning economic growth models and the systemic changes necessary for mitigation.

To promote environmental awareness, the Carlos Slim Foundation, in alliance with the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the Telmex-Telcel Digital Library, offers a free online course titled ‘Climate Change’. Hosted on the National Biodiversity Pavilion platform, the course covers the causes, evidence, and consequences of climate change, as well as potential solutions and actions to combat it.
