Climate change drives extreme heat in Brazil and threatens English rivers

Climate phenomena and rising temperatures are causing significant environmental stress in Brazil and England. In Brazil, the El Niño phenomenon is expected to trigger at least six heat waves by the end of the year. According to the National Center for Monitoring and Natural Disaster Alerts (Cemaden), these events are characterized by high-pressure systems that block rainfall, leading to extreme heat, dehydration risks, increased forest fires, and agricultural losses.

In England, climate change and recent heat waves are threatening river ecosystems, specifically salmon and trout populations. In Hampshire, water temperatures in chalk rivers like the Itchen have risen significantly above historical norms. Conservationists note that the combination of exceptionally hot summers and drought is destabilizing these nutrient-rich habitats, which are vital for local biodiversity.
