Climate change drives migration to northern UK regions

Rising temperatures and record-breaking heatwaves in the United Kingdom are prompting some residents to relocate to northern regions. Following a summer of unprecedented heat and widespread drought in the south, individuals are seeking more temperate climates to avoid extreme weather.

One resident, Mike Coe, moved from Worcestershire to the Isle of Skye in Scotland after researching warming trends in the British Midlands. He and his partner have since constructed a highly energy-efficient ‘Passivhaus’ on the Scottish coast. Other residents, such as those previously living near Milton Keynes, have reported finding summer months increasingly uncomfortable, leading to similar considerations of northward migration.
