Climate change impacts agricultural yields in Luxembourg and France

Farmers in Luxembourg and France are facing significant challenges due to extreme heatwaves and prolonged droughts. In Luxembourg, Christian Wester, president of the Centrale paysanne, reports that while dry weather can assist in grain harvesting, the lack of spring rainfall has severely impacted crop yields.

In France, organic market gardeners are experiencing similar hardships. In the Vendée region, Kévin Léon reported total losses for certain crops, such as carrots, parsnips, and beets, due to soil temperatures reaching extreme levels. These high temperatures prevent plant fertility and cause crops to wither, leading to substantial financial losses for agricultural producers.
