Climate change impacts discussed in oceanography and financial risk forums
Global experts are addressing the intersection of climate change, ocean health, and financial stability through two distinct high-level forums.
In Ravenna, Italy, an international conference at Casa Matha will focus on the relationship between the ocean and climate. Led by Professor Nadia Pinardi of the University of Bologna, the event will cover topics including polar ice melt, coastal protection, and extreme weather events. Experts from institutions such as Harvard University, Brown University, and the European Commission's Joint Research Centre will discuss biogeochemical cycles and the use of numerical models to manage marine ecosystems.
Concurrently, at the Green Swan Conference in Manila, Bank of Italy Governor Fabio Panetta emphasized the necessity of preparation and information sharing to combat climate-induced economic uncertainty. Speaking alongside the Bank for International Settlements and the Central Bank of the Philippines, Panetta argued that international cooperation is essential to mitigate shocks that cross borders through trade and financial markets. He noted that governments, financial intermediaries, and central banks must work together to build resilience and absorb climate shocks.
