Climate change impacts European viticulture and wine tourism

Climate change is significantly altering viticulture patterns across Europe. In Denmark, a new generation of winemakers is establishing a burgeoning wine tourism sector. Estates such as Nygaardsminde Vingård in North Jutland and Skærsøgaard Vin near Kolding are leading this shift, utilizing sustainable practices to develop a unique terroir in a region historically known for hops.

In Italy, the Masi Group reports that the 2026 harvest is starting approximately two weeks earlier than the ten-year average due to intense heat and water scarcity. Sandro Boscaini, President of Masi, noted that while grape health remains positive, the early maturation in regions like Valpolicella and Trentino highlights a changing climate that may require updates to production regulations and market strategies.
