Climate change reshapes Mediterranean and polar tourism trends

Extreme heat and melting ice caps are reshaping global tourism patterns. An analysis by The Data Appeal Company and Almaviva Group indicates that rising temperatures are altering traveler perceptions in the Mediterranean. While Italy maintains a high climate perception index of 91.6, there has been a slight decline from 92.2 recorded in 2025. France shows higher sensitivity to heat, with an index of 77.2, significantly lower than Italy, Spain, Greece, and Portugal.

Simultaneously, a trend in luxury tourism is emerging toward the polar regions. Travelers are increasingly seeking exclusive expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica to witness melting ice caps via private planes and specialized ships. However, this creates a paradox: these high-end trips generate significant carbon footprints, with dedicated flights producing between 15 and 25 tons of CO2 per passenger, further contributing to the climate crisis that threatens these fragile ecosystems.
