Climate crisis impacts food security and mental health

The climate crisis is increasingly impacting food security and psychological well-being. Extreme temperatures, droughts, and floods are compromising agricultural production, making food systems more vulnerable. According to the FAO, these effects are not gender-neutral; women are more likely to experience food insecurity due to socio-economic factors, including limited access to income, land ownership, credit, and technology.

Beyond physical and economic impacts, the changing environment is driving psychological distress. Concepts such as ‘eco-anxiety’—fear regarding the future of the planet—and ‘solastalgia’—the distress caused by the loss of familiarity in one's home environment—are becoming more prevalent as people witness the tangible effects of global warming in their daily lives.
