Climate crisis lacks sufficient urgency in Global North media
The climate crisis is being treated by media and citizens in the Global North as just another news topic rather than the existential threat it represents. Despite meeting all journalistic criteria for significance, sensation, and conflict, climate change often receives the same level of attention as trivial news stories, entertainment, or minor political anecdotes.
While the Global South has experienced the physical consequences of man-made climate change for years, the Global North—which bears the most responsibility—has yet to grasp the full severity of the situation. Failure to act urgently could result in the crisis undermining all other policy areas. Additionally, new studies indicate that global glaciers are melting at a high rate.
