Climate finance focus shifts to local territory adaptation
Discussions regarding climate change are increasingly focusing on the necessity of directing financial resources toward specific territories where climate impacts are most acutely felt. While increasing the total volume of climate funding is essential, experts emphasize the challenge of ensuring these funds reach local communities to implement effective adaptation and protection strategies.
This issue is expected to be a central theme at COP 31 in Turkey. During the São Paulo Climate Week, discussions highlighted that addressing the climate crisis requires a collaborative effort between governments, corporations, financial institutions, civil society, and local communities.
Effective adaptation requires strengthening the capacity of local populations to plan, structure projects, and access available resources. This approach ensures that those most vulnerable to floods, droughts, and heatwaves remain at the center of decision-making processes. Nature-based solutions (NbS) are also noted as a key method for reducing climate risks and increasing urban resilience.
