Climate Impact X and Carbonplace announce carbon market merger

Climate Impact X (CIX), a Singapore-based environmental markets exchange, and London-based carbon market platform Carbonplace have announced an agreement to merge. The transaction aims to bridge major financial and carbon market hubs by combining carbon trading, custody, settlement, and multi-registry infrastructure.

The merger is intended to create a complete transaction chain, allowing market participants to move from sourcing and trading credits through to settlement, custody, and retirement. The combined entity will be led by CIX CEO Oi-Yee Choo, with Carbonplace CEO Scott Eaton serving as President. The integration process is expected to conclude in the first quarter of 2027.

The transaction requires approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, as several shareholders are regulated financial institutions. The combined shareholder group includes a wide array of global banks and investors, such as DBS Bank, Standard Chartered, UBS, BNP Paribas, BBVA, CIBC, National Australia Bank, and SGX Group.
