Climate reports warn of rising water stress in Turkey and global economic risks

New climate reports from AXA Climate and Allianz Research highlight the escalating economic and physical risks posed by climate change.

The AXA Türkiye Climate Report 2026 projects significant environmental shifts in Turkey over the next 25 years. By 2050, approximately 65 million people—about 74% of the current population—could face high or very high levels of water stress. Additionally, 23 million people may experience heat stress. The report identifies water scarcity, extreme heat, wildfires, floods, and landslides as primary risks that threaten agriculture, urban infrastructure, energy production, and local economies.

Complementing these findings, the Allianz Climate Economy Report 2026 emphasizes that climate change is increasingly impacting macroeconomic indicators. Beyond physical damage to assets, climate risks influence productivity, inflation, consumption, and public finance. The report notes that in 2025, extreme weather events caused 184 billion euros (210 billion dollars) in economic losses globally, a figure 20% higher than the 2000-2019 average. Allianz utilizes the ClimRad platform, developed with Earthian AI, to model the intersection of natural disasters and macroeconomic scenarios.
