Climate Smart Solutions Limited launches Ghana's largest snail farm
An Australian investor has established Ghana’s largest climate-smart snail farm in Apam, located in the Central Region. Developed by Climate Smart Solutions Limited, the one-acre greenhouse facility is designed to rear approximately 20,000 snails, primarily of the Achatina species.
The facility features solar-powered CCTV cameras, Wi-Fi connectivity, and administrative offices to allow for remote monitoring and management. A snail slime extraction laboratory is also being established on-site to supply snail mucin to the global cosmetics industry.
Francis Aforve, CEO and co-founder of Climate Smart Solutions Limited, stated that the project aims to bridge the gap between Ghana’s high domestic demand and low local production, which currently necessitates significant imports from Côte d'Ivoire. The company plans to expand the operation from its current size to 10 acres in the future, targeting local markets, hotels, and export opportunities.
