Climate Week begins in New York with focus on energy transition

Climate Week has commenced in New York, running through September 27. Organized by the non-governmental Climate Group in coordination with the United Nations General Assembly, the event serves as a major global forum for political and business leaders to discuss pathways toward a sustainable, low-carbon society.

The program features over 1,000 events across the city, attracting an average of 100,000 participants. Key speakers include Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, and Icelandic Prime Minister Kristún Frostadóttir.

Discussions are centered on three primary pillars: energy sector transformations, the resulting impacts of these changes, and the necessity of collective global action. Organizers noted that the transition is occurring amidst rapid shifts in energy systems, supply chain pressures, and rising electricity demand driven by electrification, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The Climate Group maintains a long-term goal of achieving a net-zero carbon world by 2050.
