Climate Week NYC focuses on accelerating global energy and sustainability transitions
During Climate Week NYC, held from September 20 to 27, various leaders and financial institutions gathered to discuss global sustainability and the transition to clean energy. The event featured over 1,500 activities focused on the theme of “energy, impact, and action,” emphasizing the need to accelerate the implementation of existing climate solutions rather than merely making new commitments.
Garanti BBVA executives participated in high-level roundtables and conferences to discuss Turkey’s sustainable investment potential and the financial ecosystem's role in the transition. Discussions also touched upon energy security and the upcoming COP31 process. Mahmut Akten, General Manager of Garanti BBVA, noted that the impact of climate transformation should be measured by the actual investments realized through financing, rather than just figures.
In other environmental developments, the UN Global Compact Turkey, in collaboration with MEXT and supported by Türkiye İş Bankası, has launched a Sustainable Supply Chain Program. This initiative aims to help companies manage ESG risks and assist suppliers in measuring sustainability performance.
