Climate Week NYC highlights scale of environmentalist funding
Climate Week NYC recently concluded a nine-day series of events in Manhattan, featuring activities ranging from poetry sessions to upcycled fashion workshops. Critics argue that the event reflects a broader trend of radical environmentalism supported by significant philanthropic funding.
Data from the Capital Research Center indicates that environmental groups raised approximately $3.2 billion in 2020, an increase from $2.4 billion in 2019. A small group of seven funders accounted for $1.8 billion of those funds, with the Sierra Club alone bringing in $255 million in 2020.
The Sunrise Movement is highlighted as a key activist group pursuing a long-term plan through 2032 aimed at achieving what leadership describes as a ‘political revolution.’ Additionally, the group's co-founder, William Lawrence, recently won a Democratic congressional primary in Michigan on a platform advocating for a ban on AI data centers.
