Climber dies after rockfall on Široka peč

A 35-year-old climber died following a mountain accident on Široka peč, part of the Martuljske Alps, on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred around 13:45 during a climb on the East Pillar route.

According to reports, the climber was part of a two-person team on the second independent pitch. A rockfall caused the individual to lose balance and fall into a depth, resulting in fatal injuries at the scene.

Rescue operations involved the Mountain Rescue Service (GRS) Kranjska Gora and a helicopter crew from the Mountain Rescue Service (GRZS) Brnik. The Aviation Police Unit also assisted in transporting the deceased and his climbing partner from the site. Local police and judicial authorities have been notified and are investigating the circumstances of the accident.
