Climber injured by rockfall on Pizzo Nicolaucich
A 39-year-old climber from Belluno was injured by falling rocks while climbing the “Dolce attesa” route on Pizzo Nicolaucich in the Pale di San Martino. The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday, August 27, when rocks detached after a climber on a higher pitch moved out of the route line.
The victim was struck while at a belay station on the first pitch. Alpine Rescue from the San Martino di Castrozza station responded to the emergency, using a helicopter to winch the injured man to safety. He was transported to Santa Chiara Hospital in Trento to be treated for multiple traumas. Other climbers on the wall were safely escorted down by rescuers.
