Two climbers fall into Blüemlisalp glacier, one dies

On the afternoon of 24 July 2026, a rope team of two men descending the Blüemlisalphorn slipped into a crevasse on the Blüemlisalp glacier in the Bern canton of Switzerland. Rescue crews from the Kantonspolizei Bern, Rega air‑ambulance, Swiss Helicopter and Alpine Rescue Switzerland were deployed. One of the men, a 49‑year‑old Swiss citizen from the canton of Vaud, was found dead at the scene. The second climber suffered only minor injuries. Police and the regional public prosecutor opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
