Călin Georgescu faces new DIICOT investigation for alleged surveillance interference

Former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu is the subject of a new criminal investigation by DIICOT. Prosecutors allege that on September 26, 2026, Georgescu requested a 35-year-old specialist to inspect his villa in Mogoșoaia to identify and potentially disable audio-video recording equipment and computer systems installed by authorities during a previous search on September 21.

On October 21, 2026, DIICOT prosecutors and police from the Criminal Investigations Directorate conducted two home searches in Bucharest. The investigation focuses on illegal operations with computer devices or programs, as well as attempted alteration of data integrity and disruption of computer systems. The specialist involved is reportedly linked to the company SMT Discret Mission SRL, which commercializes frequency detectors and spy camera scanners.

Georgescu is currently in pre-trial detention following a separate fraud investigation involving an alleged 1.1 million euro loss. The Bucharest Court of Appeal is scheduled to hear a challenge regarding his house arrest status on October 23, 2026.
