Călin Georgescu’s Brașov Fair Visit Divides Online Community

Călin Georgescu, a Romanian political activist, attended a fair in Lunca Câlnicului, Brașov County, where he urged citizens to support local producers and to rely less on politicians. He called for everyday acts of patriotism, saying, “A potato, a piece of cheese, a loaf of bread – Romania is reborn through millions of small deeds.”

His appearance split the local online audience. Supporters posted chants such as “Călin, te iubim” and praised him as a “leader,” while critics responded with sarcasm and irony, mocking his speech and labeling his ideas as controversial.

Attendees also reported that the mobile network was disrupted, preventing live streams. One of the TikTok creators accompanying Georgescu said, “Nu se poate face live. Au bruiat sistemul telefonic,” echoing complaints that the phone system had been “bruised.”
