Céline Amaudruz announces candidacy for Swiss Federal Council

Céline Amaudruz, Vice President of the Swiss People's Party (SVP) and National Councilor from Geneva, has officially announced her candidacy for the Swiss Federal Council. She is the first confirmed candidate seeking to succeed Guy Parmelin, who announced his resignation from the government at the end of the year.

If elected, Amaudruz would be the first woman to join the Federal Council representing the SVP. While she aims to represent all of Switzerland, her candidacy highlights the ongoing debate regarding linguistic representation, as many within her party seek to return the seat to German-speaking Switzerland. Amaudruz has reportedly secured significant support from SVP members in the French-speaking region.

The official nomination process for the party's ticket will take place on November 20, with the final election by the United Federal Assembly scheduled for December 9.
