Céline Amaudruz identified as potential successor to Guy Parmelin

Céline Amaudruz, a National Councilor from Geneva and Vice President of the Swiss People's Party (SVP), has emerged as a potential candidate to succeed Guy Parmelin in the Swiss Federal Council.

Amaudruz has a long-standing political and personal connection to Parmelin, having orchestrated his election campaign in 2015. Parmelin himself has identified Amaudruz, along with Esther Friedli and Natalie Rickli, as one of three possible names for his successor. This public endorsement is considered unusual by some political figures, including SVP Senator Hannes Germann, who noted that it is generally not considered appropriate for a departing Federal Councilor to recommend specific candidates.

Amaudruz is a prominent figure in French-speaking Switzerland (Romandie). She has served in the National Council since 2011 and previously led the Geneva cantonal party for six years.
