Clinical Center of Montenegro performs first pulse field ablation

The Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG) has successfully performed its first pulse field ablation (PFA) to treat atrial fibrillation. This advanced catheter ablation method was used on two patients, born in 1961 and 1995, who had suffered from long-term atrial fibrillation that led to heart failure.

Unlike traditional methods such as radiofrequency ablation, which uses extreme heat, or cryoablation, which uses cold, PFA technology utilizes ultra-fast, high-voltage electrical impulses. This allows for targeted action on the specific cells causing the arrhythmia.

The procedure was carried out by the Department for Heart Rhythm Disorders and Cardiac Electrophysiology at the KCCG Cardiology Clinic, with support from cardiologist-arrhythmologist Nikola Pavlović from the Dubrava Clinical Hospital in Zagreb.
