Prostate cancer treatments show significant reduction in metastasis risk

Recent clinical trial results presented at the 2026 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) congress highlight advancements in prostate cancer treatment.

In the Phase 3 Dasl-Hicap study, the combination of darolutamide, standard androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), and locoregional radiotherapy reduced the risk of metastasis or death by 58% compared to a placebo in patients at very high risk of recurrence. The study reported a four-year metastasis-free survival rate of 95% for the darolutamide group.

Separately, results from the Phase 3 PROTEUS sub-study showed that apalutamide combined with ADT, administered perioperatively (six months before and after surgery), reduced the risk of disease recurrence or death by 62% compared to radical prostatectomy alone. This regimen also demonstrated a 51% reduction in the risk of metastasis or death and a longer time until subsequent treatment was required.
