Clint Gutherson undergoes knee surgery, ending Dragons season

St George Illawarra Dragons co-captain Clint Gutherson has undergone surgery on a long-standing knee injury, ending his 2026 season. The veteran fullback underwent a cartilage operation following a campaign spent managing discomfort.

While Gutherson initially hoped to return before the end of the season, the surgical intervention aims to ensure he is fully fit for the 2027 season. He is expected to begin pre-season training in November. Gutherson enters the final year of his contract in 2027.

Daniel Atkinson is expected to take over the fullback role for the remainder of the campaign. Gutherson has praised Atkinson’s recent performances, noting the player's ability to step into the No. 1 jersey during the team's recent period of momentum.
