Clínica San Juan de Dios introduces Versius robotic surgery system in Arequipa
Clínica San Juan de Dios in Arequipa, Peru, has introduced the Versius robotic surgery system, marking a significant advancement in regional surgical technology. Developed by the British company CMR Surgical, the system features four independent, modular robotic arms designed to mimic the versatility of human anatomy, including wrist, elbow, and shoulder movements.
The technology utilizes a high-definition 3D camera to allow surgeons to operate through small incisions via an independent console. This modular approach allows for flexible positioning around the patient, aiming to provide greater precision, reduced bleeding, and faster postoperative recovery compared to traditional methods.
The clinic successfully performed its first robotic surgery on a 46-year-old patient using this equipment, representing a major milestone for surgical care in Arequipa.
