Clorinda child placed with grandmother amid protests

An 11-year-old boy from Clorinda has been placed under the temporary guardianship of his maternal grandmother following a judicial decision. The child had previously been institutionalized in a Formosa residence after authorities intervened in October 2025 due to reports of domestic violence and physical injuries.

The decision followed an audiovisual hearing where the minor spoke about his experiences. The grandmother, who resides in Corrientes, traveled to Formosa to facilitate the reunion. The boy will remain in her care until his mother is deemed capable of providing adequate supervision.

The case has sparked significant public outcry, leading to protests in Clorinda and Formosa. Legal representative Gabriela Neme led marches criticizing the actions of Juvenile Court Judge Nadia Caballero and advisor Noemí Teresa Isabel Vera. Protesters demanded justice and raised broader concerns regarding the protection of children within the institutional system, calling for stricter adherence to Law 26.061 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
