Clothing care and detergent labeling standards

Guidelines for extending the lifespan of clothing emphasize mindful washing and strategic storage. Key practices include following care labels, separating items by color, and using cold or lukewarm water to prevent fading. Turning garments inside out before washing can protect prints and decorations from friction. To avoid damage from high temperatures, air drying in shaded areas is recommended over machine drying, while knitwear should be dried horizontally to prevent stretching.

In the detergent industry, new EU Council mandates from June 14, 2024, are shifting focus toward more comprehensive labeling. Beyond laboratory performance, manufacturers must ensure labels accurately reflect the combination of surfactants, fragrances, and preservatives. This regulatory push emphasizes bulk sales, complete warnings, and safe usage instructions, moving away from older practices that prioritized foam production over detailed compositional transparency.
