Cloud Imperium Games confirms no German voice acting for Squadron 42

Cloud Imperium Games has officially confirmed that the upcoming sci-fi action game Squadron 42 will not feature German voice acting at launch. Instead, the game will rely on subtitles for several languages, including German.

The studio cited the high-profile cast of actors—which includes Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, and Henry Cavill—as the reason for this decision. Developers stated that because of the prominent performers, the title will utilize subtitles in certain languages rather than full dubbing to preserve the original performances.

This news follows discussions sparked by the game's Steam product page, which listed English as the only language with full voice acting. The decision is noted as a disappointment for the German community, which lead developer Chris Roberts has previously identified as the second-largest supporter group for the Star Citizen crowdfunding project, which has surpassed $1 billion in total funding.
