Cloud Imperium Games delays Squadron 42 to 2027

Cloud Imperium Games has announced a new delay for Squadron 42, shifting its release window from the fourth quarter of 2026 to the second quarter of 2027. Founder Chris Roberts stated in a recent communication that the decision was made to avoid the intense media competition surrounding the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, which is currently scheduled for November 2026.

Roberts noted that the presence of the Rockstar Games title would likely monopolize coverage from specialized media outlets and content creators. While Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Roberts expressed concern that its console release would still overshadow other major titles.

As part of the upcoming schedule, a limited number of original backers and long-term Star Citizen content creators will be permitted to play Squadron 42 on October 9 and 10, 2026. A more precise release date is expected to be announced following these sessions.
