Squadron 42 arrives on Steam with Q2 2027 release window

Cloud Imperium Games has launched the official Steam page for Squadron 42, the long-awaited single-player campaign set within the Star Citizen universe. The announcement includes a new cinematic trailer titled ‘The Oath,’ showcasing space combat, ground operations, and narrative sequences.

After more than a decade of development, the game is now available for wishlisting on Steam. The current release window is set for the second quarter of 2027, spanning April to June. This timeline follows a previous target of 2026, which was pushed back by studio founder Chris Roberts to avoid competing for attention with the launch of GTA 6.

The title features a high-profile Hollywood cast, including Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Henry Cavill, Andy Serkis, and Ben Mendelsohn. Players will take on the role of a United Empire of Earth (UEE) Navy recruit in a story set in the year 2945.

Technical details revealed include a required installation size of 150 GB and minimum system requirements including 16 GB of RAM and a graphics card with 8 GB of VRAM. The game will be a standalone experience for Windows, though a Roberts Space Industries account will also be required.
