Cloud security evolves from CWPP to CNAPP as decision-making remains a key challenge

The cloud security landscape is evolving from Cloud Workload Protection Platforms (CWPP) toward more integrated Cloud-Native Application Protection Platforms (CNAPP). While CWPPs focus on protecting specific workloads such as virtual machines, containers, and serverless functions through continuous monitoring and threat detection, they often lack the comprehensive visibility required for modern cloud environments.

Despite the adoption of advanced tools like Web Application Firewalls (WAF), CNAPP, and artificial intelligence, security incidents persist. While these technologies can visualize technical attack paths and configuration errors, a critical gap remains in human decision-making. Organizations often struggle to determine how to respond to identified risks because immediate remediation can impact business operations. Consequently, the challenge is shifting from merely identifying technical threats to establishing clear organizational decision-making frameworks to manage the resulting risks.
