Cloudflare Introduces Stablecoin Wallets for AI Agents

Cloudflare announced a new product called Cloudflare Wallets that lets AI agents hold and spend stablecoins. The service offers two wallet types – an Account Wallet for users and organizations to deposit funds and monitor spending, and a Virtual Wallet accessed via API keys for programmatic transactions. Limits on transaction size, approved vendors, and spending caps can be set by the wallet owner. The wallets use the x402 protocol, developed with Coinbase, to enable micro‑payments without requiring a traditional account or subscription.

At the same time, analysts warn that AI usage costs are rising sharply for enterprises. Token fees for advanced models such as Claude Code could outpace the salaries of average programmers by 2028, prompting companies to seek cheaper alternatives, including open‑source and Chinese‑origin models. The growing expense highlights the need for better budgeting tools as AI becomes a core part of business operations.
