Clover Press revives Marvel Masterworks comic reprint line
Clover Press has secured the license to restart Marvel's archival hardcover series, Marvel Masterworks, which was halted in 2025 after sales fell below viability. The publisher announced the relaunch at the ComicsPRO event during San Diego Comic‑Con, confirming a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to fund the first four volumes slated for 2027: Uncanny X‑Men #18, Super‑Villain Team‑Up vol. 1, The Mighty Thor vol. 25 and Tomb of Dracula vol. 6.
Clover Press will preserve the original legacy numbering and classic cover designs while also offering a new unnumbered cover aimed at attracting new readers. The venture is led by IDW co‑founders Ted Adams and Robbie Robbins, with editor Hank Kanalz stating Marvel produced 389 volumes over more than two decades and that Clover intends to continue that numbering. The move reflects Disney’s broader strategy of licensing Marvel publishing to external partners, alongside plans for a new manga line in Japan and a shift toward digital platforms such as Webtoon by 2030.
