Club América defender Néstor Araujo departs ahead of Apertura 2026

Club América announced the departure of Mexican defender Néstor Araujo as the team prepares for the Apertura 2026 tournament. The 34‑year‑old centre‑back joined the club in the 2022 Apertura after a spell with Spain's Celta de Vigo and was initially a regular starter under coach André Jardine. Over four seasons he contributed to a golden period in which América won three Liga MX titles, a Campeón de Campeones, a Campeones Cup, a Supercopa MX and a Liga MX championship, accumulating 64 official matches and more than 5,000 minutes on the field.

Araujo’s playing time declined in recent campaigns due to injuries and internal competition, prompting the club to pursue a roster renewal focused on younger talent. América thanked him for his service, noting his experience and leadership, and indicated he remains eligible to join another Liga MX side or explore opportunities abroad.
