Club América sees key players miss World Cup 2026 and parts ways with coach André Jardine

A number of Club América players were omitted from Mexico’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. Goalkeeper Luis Ángel Malagón missed out after an Achilles‑tendon injury, while forward Henry Martín was left out due to persistent physical problems. In parallel, the club announced that Brazilian coach André Jardine will leave his role after a semifinal defeat to Pumas. Although he remained under contract, director Antonio Ibrahim, backed by club president Emilio Azcárraga, decided on a full restructuring for the Apertura 2026 season, which includes the possible departure of recent signings Rafael Veiga and Vinicius Lima. The changes mark a significant overhaul of the squad and coaching staff ahead of the new tournament cycle.
