Club América signs midfielder Edwin Cerrillo from LA Galaxy

Club América announced the signing of 25‑year‑old midfielder Edwin Cerrillo from the LA Galaxy. Born in Waco, Texas, Cerrillo holds both Mexican and U.S. citizenship and previously played for FC Dallas. He is expected to add depth to the team's defensive midfield as the club prepares for the Apertura 2026 tournament.

The club is also in advanced talks to acquire Colombian forward Jaminton Campaz from Rosario Central in Argentina. Campaz, a 2026 World Cup participant, is valued at around $5.5 million, with América’s initial $3.5 million offer rejected. Negotiations continue as the player seeks a move to Mexico.

Separately, Brazilian side Cruzeiro confirmed it will not pursue a $10‑$12 million transfer for Uruguay international Brian Rodríguez, who has been with América since 2022 and helped the team win multiple domestic titles. The failed deal underscores América’s active presence in the summer transfer market.
