Club Med South Africa employee charged with rape at Tinley Manor

A 35‑year‑old French employee of Club Med, identified as Guy Marchandier, has been charged with raping a 17‑year‑old guest at the newly opened Club Med Tinley Manor resort in KwaZulu‑Natal, South Africa. The alleged assault took place over the weekend of 3–4 August, after the employee allegedly invited the teenager to staff quarters. He was arrested on 23 July, appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on 4 August and was released on bail of R5 000 with strict conditions, including remaining in South Africa and surrendering his passport. Club Med has suspended the employee and said it is cooperating fully with South African authorities. The case has sparked concerns about guest safety and safeguarding policies at tourism venues in the region.
