Villa Hayes begins construction of water treatment plant
Construction has officially commenced on a new potable water treatment plant in Villa Hayes, Paraguay. The project, located approximately 30 kilometers from Asunción, is designed to benefit roughly 34,000 residents in the Presidente Hayes department.
The facility will have a processing capacity of 12,000 cubic meters of water per day. The project includes the construction of a 1.1-kilometer adductor to capture water from the Paraguay River, alongside real-time monitoring and control systems.
Financed through a non-reimbursable donation of approximately 1,936 million Japanese yen (roughly USD 12.4 million) from the Government of Japan via the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the work is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2028. The construction was awarded to the Japanese firm Fujita Corporation, with oversight provided by a consortium including Kyowa Engineering Consultants and Tokyo Engineering Consultants.
