Club Sport Marítimo celebrates 116th anniversary amid training center controversy
Club Sport Marítimo celebrated its 116th anniversary with a gala dinner at the Casino da Madeira. During the event, club president Carlos André Gomes addressed the ongoing controversy regarding the Madeira Sports Center in Ribeira Brava.
Gomes criticized recent agreements made regarding the facility, stating that the correct approach should have been a tripartite agreement. He expressed concern over decisions made without Marítimo’s consultation, specifically referencing a recent arrangement between Sociedade Ponta Oeste and Nacional that allows the latter to train at the site twice a week. While acknowledging that Marítimo does not own the space, Gomes emphasized the club's ongoing need for the training pitch.
The president also noted the absence of Regional Government President Miguel Albuquerque from the celebration, extending an invitation for the following year.
