Club Unión de Zapala Wins Appeal Over 6‑Million Peso Claim

Argentina's Tribunal Superior de Justicia overturned a lower‑court ruling that had ordered Club Social y Deportivo Unión de Zapala to pay nearly 6 million pesos plus interest to the family of a youth injured when a tribune section collapsed during a 2019 match. The appellate judges, Evaldo Moya and Germán Busamia, concluded that the evidence did not sufficiently establish a causal link between the injury and the accident, describing the earlier medical expert report as arbitrarily weighted.

Club president Martín Sosa welcomed the decision, saying it protects sports institutions and creates a precedent for future cases. The dispute, which began in 2019 and was formally filed in 2022, had threatened the club’s finances after a first‑instance judgment awarded the plaintiff over 450 million pesos. The higher court’s reversal was based on the lack of contemporaneous medical studies, post‑accident treatment records, and other objective evidence linking the injury to the incident.
